Bills vs. Chiefs picks, predictions against spread: Why Kansas City will advance to Super Bowl 55

Football (NFL,High School,College )

The Chiefs will be playing in their third consecutive AFC championship game when they host the Bills on Sunday (6:40 p.m. ET, CBS). The reigning champions and conference top seed are two wins away from repeating in Super Bowl 55.

Kansas City is in the playoffs for a sixth straight season. Meanwhile, second-seeded Buffalo is in the playoffs for the third time in four seasons after breaking an 18-year drought in 2017.

The Chiefs last lost in the playoffs two years ago against Tom Brady’s Patriots. Will Josh Allen’s Bills deliver the same result in Arrowhead Stadium, fresh off their first two playoff wins in 25 seasons?

Assuming Patrick Mahomes returns from the head/neck injury that kept him out late of the Chiefs’ 22-17 win over the Browns in the divisional round, it will be a battle of pas...

An updated look at the NFL playoffs schedule

Football (NFL,High School,College )

The NFL is down to its final four. The matchups are set in the conference championship games after a thrilling weekend in the Divisional Round that saw the Packers, Bucs, Bills, and Chiefs all advance. By Sunday night, we’ll finally know who will be playing in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7.

The NFC side is giving us a historic quarterback matchup between perhaps the two greatest talents who have ever played the position. Aaron Rodgers is playing arguably the best football of his life at age-37 and will soon be named the league’s MVP. He picked apart the Rams’ vaunted defense in the Divisional Round, throwing darts all over the field to finish with 296 yards passing, two touchdowns through the air, and another on the ground...

2 winners and 4 losers from the NFL divisional playoff round

Football (NFL,High School,College )

I know this is a difficult morning in Cleveland. Local fans were rooting for the Browns to win, heck everyone outside of Kansas City was praying we’d get a Browns vs. Bills AFC Championship game, but it just wasn’t to be.

I get that it’s disappointing, but dang Cleveland, Browns fans should be over the moon this morning. This was unquestionably the best season the team has had since being re-launched in 1999 — and there’s really something to build off here. We’ve seen scant few winning seasons for the Browns, but this feels like the first where there’s a real foundation that can be built off. A solid future that is actually set up for success, with young talent, the right coaching, and finally a front office that can put everything together.

Not only are all the stars aligni...

The Saints stole the trick play the Bears used against them and did it better

Football (NFL,High School,College )

The New Orleans Saints advanced to the Divisional Round of the 2021 NFL playoffs by defeating the Chicago Bears in the Super Wild Card round a week ago. The Saints dominated that game from start to finish, but they got some help from the Chicago when Bears receiver Javon Wims dropped a wide open touchdown pass off a brilliant trick play during the first quarter.

Sean Payton must have liked what he saw, because he used the exact same play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the next week. Only this time, the Saints caught the pass and it resulted in a touchdown.

New Orleans lined up quarterback Jameis Winston out wide, put a receiver in motion, pitched him the ball, and then had him pitch it back to Winston...

Chad Henne’s gutsy plays saved the Chiefs after Patrick Mahomes’ playoffs injury

Football (NFL,High School,College )

The Chiefs are heading back to the AFC Championship, and they did so behind a quarterback not named Patrick Mahomes.

In Sunday’s Divisional Round clash between the Chiefs and Browns, Mahomes was knocked out of the game after suffering a concussion in the third quarter with his team leading 19-10. They finished the drive with a field goal that would be their final points of a thrilling affair at Arrowhead.

Mahomes’ injury paved the way for journeyman Chad Henne to enter the game and log the first playoff snaps of his 11-year career. Though he’s started 54 career games, Henne started just once in the last five years, which came in Week 17 this season when the Chiefs were resting starters in their regular-season finale vs. the Chargers.

It looked like Henne would end up being the dunce...

It is very hard to travel across a whole country in a straight line

Football (NFL,High School,College )

It is surprisingly difficult to move any real distance in a straight line. The landscape is littered with obstacles both natural and man-made. It turns out that treating rivers, fences, mountains, swamps etc. like they’re not actually there rather than doing the sensible thing and going around them is … challenging.

I bring this up because I recently stumbled across a series of videos by ‘GeoWizard’ Tom Davies, in which he attempts to cross a whole country in a straight line. His most recent attempt is Norway, which makes up for its skinniness by being, well, Norway, Land of Fjords and Big, Craggy Mountains.

Tyreek Hill’s absurd career-best receiving game, in perspective

Football (NFL,High School,College )

Tyreek Hill earned his backflip.

The Chiefs’ star wide receiver had just caught his seventh pass against the Buccaneers, taking it 44 yards to the end zone. It gave him his second touchdown of Week 12 to go along with 203 receiving yards. And oh yeah, it was still the first quarter.

Hill finished with 13 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns, winning countless fantasy football matchups in the process while ensuring that Patrick Mahomes would even his score with Tom Brady. The performance by Hill was such that, as it was happening, it was hard to truly fathom how great it was. It seemed like Tampa Bay would never have an answer for one of the NFL’s fastest players, and although Hill slowed down after his torrid first quarter, he still made plenty of history.

Before Hill takes the fiel...

Best fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 13

Football (NFL,High School,College )

Given all the injuries and COVID issues leading up to this week, we knew there would be ample opportunities for sleepers to step up and land themselves among the top Week 13 fantasy waiver wire pickups and free agent adds. However, that didn’t really happen on Sunday, as handcuff RBs Jordan Wilkins, Brian Hill, and Matt Breida weren’t even the best backs on their teams, and very few under-the-radar pass-catchers and quarterbacks broke out. Cam Akers was one of the few sleepers to come through in a big way, and Josh Jacobs was one of the few big-name players to suffer a potential injury, opening the door for his handcuff, Devontae Booker.

Our full free agent list features plenty of potential fliers based on workload (Frank Gore, Sterling Shepard, Jordan Reed, etc), but with the poss...

Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy defends failed fake punt: ‘Can’t just think about negatives’

Football (NFL,High School,College )

The Cowboys were humbled at home on Thanksgiving by archrival Washington. The 41-16 defeat was highlighted by a failed fake punt on fourth-and-10 from their own 24-yard line with over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Dallas was trailing just 20-16 at the time.

The play, a reverse to Cedrick Wilson, resulted in a 1-yard loss and a turnover on downs.

COWBOYS-WASHINGTON: Scoring updates, highlights

Washington scored on the next play and went on to tally 21 unanswered points to roll to the victory.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy told reporters postgame that the play call was “solid” and insisted that teams cannot worry about negative outcomes on such plays.

“You won’t get anywhere if you’re thinking about negatives all the time,” McCarthy said...
